Competition: NO BALLET 2012

Competition NO BALLET 2012

From November 8 to 10, 2012, the Theater im Pfalzbau in Ludwigshafen / Germany hosts the International Choreography Competition NO BALLET 2012 – a competition for modern and contemporary dance, according to the idea and artistic concept of the choreographer Juliane Rößler.

The conceptual motto NO BALLET of the competition as well as the artistic credo “reduce to the max” should encourage the choreographers to concentrate on the essentials of a (post) modern dance-production: Choreographers should develop their own contemporary and genuine dance-language, their own style, beyond established dance techniques and movements, and without the help of splendid stage-design, costumes and light-effects. Professionals of every age with choreographies with at least two dancers are invited to apply.

Jury:
Hansgünther Heyme, Reinhild Hoffmann, Susanne Linke, Kajo Nelles, Klaus Obermaier, Graziela Padilla, Hartmut Regitz, Juliane Rößler, Ralf Rossa, Darrel Toulon

Festival: Schrittmacher Festival, Aachen, Germany

Schrittmacher Festival, Aachen, Germany

In Lie of the Land the sharp sweetness of Ned Rorem’s String Quartet No.4 has taken Martin Lawrance into new territory. Lyrical yet urgent dancing charts the lie of the land in ever restless and searching mood changes. “Lawrance’s most impressive dance yet. Strong, clear and charged with expressive tension” The Times.

Richard Alston’s iconic Roughcut, made in 1990, is probably his best-loved signature piece. It is danced to Steve Reich’s shimmeringly beautiful New York Counterpoint and Electric Counterpoint, played live by clarinettist Roger Heaton and guitarist James Woodrow. This is a rare chance to see one of the defining classics of British Dance. “Fills the stripped-back reaches of the stage with a mercurial joie de vivre that makes you grin in the dark.” The Herald

Schrittmacher Festival is taking place in Aachen, Germany from 23.3.2012 to 25.3.2012.
